Working Late – ADVICE FROM YOU!

I haven’t had one of these “Please help!” posts in a while. Maybe because we’re feeling more settled in our marriage and we don’t have as many moments that leave us thinking, “I wonder how other people figure this stuff out…” Or maybe because life has been so crazy focused on our house and work that we haven’t had a lot of time to really dig deep in these marriage issues that sometimes come up.

As I write this, Hubs is still not home from work on a Friday night. He’s worked long hours all week. And all last week. And the week before that.

We were gone all last week because he had to work out of town. I went with him hoping to spend some quality time together during the evenings and on the weekends, but even that time was mostly filled with him responding to emails, finishing projects on his laptop while I read, or him needing to go to bed early so he could get up early and do it all over again the next day.

I love that he loves his job. And I’m so thankful he can do something he enjoys (mostly!) to support our little family and help us have this beautiful home we love.

I even like that he sometimes has work to do at home. I don’t mind reading quietly or working on projects of my own for an hour or so of an evening if he has work to do. It’s nice to be able to sit quietly with our own projects and still just be there with each other.

But I’m at a loss as to what to do to help him relax when he comes home and has time to unplug from the day or week he’s had.

Don’t get me wrong, we still enjoy our evenings together, but lately, I can tell work’s been on his mind more than before. I know every job is a different situation and there are certain times when we need to be accessible by email and phone. But I’m just wondering how we decide what things are “work-free” zones and how to best really commit to being present in those moments when work is always in the back of our mind?

So, friends, tell me, what are your best tips for helping your honey relax when he can’t stop thinking about work? And how do you find the balance between work and play and time at home?

New blog ideas?

Hey guys, I know how fun it is for me to sit here and write all about our life, but today, it’s time for you to tell me some stuff instead, ok?

Come on, I know you can do it.

It’s not hard, I promise. You just leave a quick comment. It won’t hurt, and it will even be fun.

Especially fun for me as I will get to read all your awesome feedback.

But seriously, please.

Now that I’ve convinced you to play along with that, here’s what I want to know:

I’m going to be making some blog changes, hopefully transitioning some business-end stuff like hosts and domains, etc. But also reworking the theme and content sections for what I’ll write about. I want to know what you like most about reading my posts, what you dislike, what annoys you and makes you stop reading. What makes you laugh and want to keep reading.

You get the idea. Tell me what you like to read about.

And then hopefully, once I get all my stuff together, I’ll be able to give you just that, only in a brand new home in my own little corner of the blogosphere.

Advice from You: “Real” Grown-ups

I think the biggest thing about having our one-year anniversary is that I’m now feeling less and less like a newlywed.

Of course, I’d say a big part of this is that we bought a “big” house that we are now working on and making our own.

We have settled into our own routines and habits. We have favorite weeknight dinners and a familiar list of grocery “staples” that we buy every week, or every week at least.

And we just feel like we’re growing up more all the time.

I have to admit I feel a little sad about some of this “growing up” stuff. I don’t want to lose the freshness and excited newness we had when we were first married. I’m even a little sad to leave our apartment as we move to our new house soon…it’s where we learned how to live together, where we became our own little family.

But I know the future will hold so much more than the past has held, and that there will always be new and exciting things for us to do together. And even though we won’t feel like newlyweds, we’ll feel like a comfortable, stable, married couple…which is just as good. Better even.

Still, sometimes I find myself feeling nostalgic and unsure what to do with those feelings.

What about you? Ever feel like you’re growing up too fast? Ever feel sad thinking about how some really great, exciting times are behind you? How do you handle those feelings? Let’s here some advice!

Burn, baby burn…

This weekend, we had a great time relaxing with family and friends. We also enjoyed soaking up some Vitamin D…but…we may have soaked up a little too much.

We’re both burnt.

And ouch.

Did I say Ouch already?

Hubs says his armpits are the worst, since we laid on our backs with our arms out above our heads. My chest is the worst. You know that spot in the middle that rubs when you’re wearing a bra?

(Sorry to any male readers, but all the ladies out there who’ve ever had a little too much sun while wearing a bikini know exactly what I’m talking about.)

And now we’re both a little grumpy and salty.

He’s in pain. I get it. But I am, too. We’re both alternating back and forth between being doting and being annoyed at each other.

Still, it was a great weekend.

So, what about you? What was your worst burn? How do you get over it faster? How do you cope with a whiny spouse, whether it’s you or your hubs? Or the missus?

Advice from you! Best way to make a meal on a weeknight

Ok, so recently, we’ve been doing a lot of quicker, weeknight-type meals. The idea of homemade pizza has come up a few times. As well as the idea of fish that comes canned…besides tuna, and what we can do with it.

Please help! I know you guys are good cooks, so tell me how to make this work!

On my own again, but needing some help from you!

This was the first time in a month that I could pick any topic I wanted. In case you missed it, for the last month, I’ve participated in the A to Z blogging challenge.

It was fun and I met lots of cool new bloggers, so if you’re one of them, welcome, and thanks!

But I’m ready to get back to the basics.

And as my first post back on my own, I’ve decided to ask a question that’s been on our minds the past couple of nights. I’ll leave it up to you guys tonight. Take the poll, and leave a  comment!

Sometimes, Hubs and I are lazy.

Usually though, we’re pretty busy.

That’s great, because we love being active and visiting family and friends. But, it means we have lots of long weekends away from home, so sleeping in isn’t usually an option. And sometimes, as newlyweds, our night-time snuggle time interrupts would could be sleeping time. Plus, I have to get up at or before 6am for work since I’m driving more than 35 minutes every morning. Yikes.

So, we’re often tired.

And that means I yawn at work.

Hubs can drink coffee to help wake himself up, but I’m caffeine-free now and am in need of a new way to find a pick-me-up after a long week, or a busy weekend.

Advice is appreciated! Let me know what works for you!
